Marvelous Mini-beasts and Brilliant Bees

Today we explored the grounds of our school to see how many different mini-beasts have made our school grounds their habitat. The Year 2 children at the Infant school also joined in to share this project with us.

We found Mr Haycock in his bee suit. He spent time explaining to us how the bees will use the hive and create honey. Our swarm of bees only arrived yesterday, so it was interesting to see how they were ‘buzzing’ about, becoming familiar with their new surroundings.

After finding out about bees, we continued with our mini-beast hunt and saw lots of other creatures such as dragonfly, slugs, snails, spiders, caterpillars, millipedes and beetles. We crept inside the Willow Dome to see what we could find in there. Ella noticed some very fine cobwebs.  It was very interesting to see how much wildlife was all around us even when we don’t realise it
