Larch and Kingfishers Classes

We all want to read to Inka!

We had some very special visitors to see us today. Sue arrived with her gorgeous dog ‘Inka’. Inka is a PAT (Pets As Therapy) dog. PAT dogs have been supporting the Read2Dogs scheme. Here is some information about it;

The Read2Dogs Scheme

Helping children to read and communicate.

Improving the literacy skills of children by reading to a Pets As Therapy registered PAT dog.

Research shows that children can be nervous and stressed when reading to others in a group.  However, when a PAT dog enters the group the child becomes less stressed and less self conscious.

Before long the children are looking forward to the reading experience as they are going to read to their new friend, the PAT dog.  Schools that have been welcoming the Read2Dogs scheme already, have had extremely positive results.

In HG, we are also hoping to see some good results as everyone will take turns in reading to Inka. Inka is a really lovely dog who seemed as pleased to see the children as they were to see her. Already we can see very high levels of motivation to want to read and impress Sue and Inka!

    It looks as if Inka has found some new friends in HG. I’m sure she is looking forward to your reading to her!
