Larch and Kingfishers Classes

“O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree…..”

This morning we visited Wylds Farm. Wylds Farm grow Christmas Trees and invited us to see what is involved in growing the best ones! Mr Rook-Blackstone took us out in to the fields by his tractor and trailer. We felt very Christmassy already! We found out that it is very hard work growing trees that people want to buy. Mr Rook-Blackstone told us how they work hard to protect the trees from pests. Their main pests are ladybirds! As well as rabbits, deer and weeds. Rabbits love to eat Christmas Trees, almost as much as carrots.

The trees are cared for by hand and there are thousands of them! It wasn’t surprising that some people have already come to label the tree they wish to buy. After we had met Mr Rook-Blackstone’s pet pigs, and finished our trip around the fields, we warmed up with some hot chocolate. A big thank you to Mr Rook-Blackstone and all at Wylds Farm.

It looks as if you had a great morning at Wylds Farm among the Christmas trees- and the hot chocolate looks tasty! Your photos have made me feel Christmassy too!

Eddie took us along last weekend to pick our tree. Great fun, especially the tractor ride and the glass of mulled wine!
