Theseus and the Minotaur

Over the past few weeks, we have been retelling the Greek Myth of ‘Theseus and the Minotaur’. We have used dance, drama and writing to share our work. Brandon and Charlie have written the Myth, working really hard to include powerful verbs and adjectives. Their work has been transcribed below;

‘Theseus and the Minotaur’ by Charlie.

Once upon a time there was King Aegeus. He had a son called Theseus. King Aegeus hid sandals and a sword under a very heavy boulder. He lifted up the boulder. He bent down and moved it. He went to the maze in Athens. A horrible witch gave Theseus a poisonous drink. King Aegeus said “No! That’s my son”.

“I am going to fight the Minotaur”. Theseus, he felt scared but he was brave.

Ariadne gave him a ball of string. He went in to the maze. It got darker and darker and then he heard a roar. He looked right and left, side to side to side and backwards. Then he came face to face with a Minotaur, half human, half bull.

Theseus held a magic axe. He jumped on the Minotaur’s back and ripped out his horn. Then he threw it right between the Minotaur’s eyes. He fell to the floor suffering in pain. He went out of the maze. He got to the boat. He was so happy, he forgot to change the black sails to white. His father saw the black sails. He thought Theseus had died. His father was so sad that he jumped off the cliff.

‘Theseus and the Minotaur’ by Brandon.

A long, long time ago there was a King called Aegeus. He had a son called Theseus. King Aegeus hid a pair of sandals and a sword under a heavy rock. When Theseus grew up, he was big and strong. When he lifted the boulder, he went to find his dad. When he found his dad, he saw Ariadne. The King told Theseus to kill the Minotaur.

Ariadne gave him a string so he couldn’t get lost. Theseus went to the maze to kill the Minotaur. He used the string where he was going. When he found the Minotaur he killed it. When he killed it he went back and climbed up to the boat and as he went out on the sea he forgot to change the sails. As his dad watched the sails go he thought that his son was dead so he jumped off the cliff and died.

    Your dance and drama sessions sound really exciting and Charlie and Brandon’s stories are very well written. Well done both of you!
