Summer visit to Durleighmarsh Farm

On Tuesday we had a glorious day! In the morning, we went for our summer visit to Alison at Durleighmarsh Farm. Alison showed us which fruits and vegetables are growing now and advised us what we could make with them in our cooking. Alison kindly took us all around the farm, letting us pick and taste a few things. We tried Gooseberries, Redcurrants, Blackcurrants, Whitecurrants, Loganberries, Broad beans, Broccoli, Spinach, Peas and of course, Strawberries. Everyone loved the Strawberries! Some people also found the Gooseberries really tasty too. We rubbed our fingers on the Blackcurrant leaves and it smelled just like Ribena!

Alison then showed us some vegetables that we might no be so familiar with and explained how they grow.

Then it was time for us to pick our own fruits so that we could make a summer pudding back at school. We picked Gooseberries, Strawberries, Redcurrants, Blackbcurrants, Whitecurrants and Raspberries. It was hot work.

Finally, we had to pay for our harvest and thank Alison for helping us.
