Larch and Kingfishers Classes

Our 1940’s shop

In HG, we have been finding out about ‘rationing’ that began during World War II. We have looked at some real ration books that Ella had brought in. We made our own ration books and turned our classroom into a 1940’s shop. We used our ration books to ‘buy’ ingredients to make a sandwich. We could only buy what we had enough ‘coupons’ for. We made a sandwich for Mr Burford and he had to go without butter as we had run out of coupons!

We have also been looking at following and writing ‘instructions’. We followed instructions to make our own gas masks (see photo below). We also wrote our own instructions for making a sandwich. We are testing the instructions we have written at home.

Would you give up your coupons to these shop keepers?!

Sean has tested his instructions at home and has made his own sandwich. Well done Sean!

It looks as if you successfully followed the instructions for making the gas masks. Did it feel scarey when you put them on?
