Gong Hey Fat Choy
Happy Chinese New Year!
This year is the year of the Snake. We found out about Chinese New Year celebrations and traditions. We had a go at copying some Chinese symbols, and made some ‘Snake’ puppets. In the kitchen, we combined Pancake day with Chinese New Year and made Chinese Pancake rolls! We chopped up peppers and mushrooms and cooked them in the pan with some grated ginger and chopped garlic. They were delicious and we gave them ‘thumbs up’.
Here is the recipe;
Ingredients –
1 tbsp groundnut oil
2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
1 tbsp freshly grated ginger
115g bean sprouts
1 red pepper, seeded and finely chopped
1 yellow pepper, seeded and finely chopped
1 handful shiitake mushrooms, finely chopped
1 tbsp light soy sauce
dash toasted sesame oil
fresh cracked white pepper
wraps or savory pancakes.
Method –
1) Heat a wok over high heat and add 2 tablespoons of groundnut oil, then garlic and ginger. Stir-fry quickly for a few seconds.
2) Add the bean sprouts, peppers and mushrooms and cook until the vegetables are tender, but still have a bite.
3) Season to taste with the light soy sauce, sesame oil and white pepper.
4) Place some of the filling on a pancake, fold or roll and enjoy!
